Welcome to the website for the Retain project.

In most European countries dropping out from education and training is a major issue. Young people lacking proper qualifications and exams have difficulties finding stable jobs and the risk of unemployment, especially long-term unemployment, is much higher among this group. Therefore education and training institutions need to develop methods of supporting the young people in a way that helps them to remain in education and to carry out their educational and vocational plans.

The aim of the project is to support young people in carrying out their educational and vocational plans. The project objectives are;

  • to identify successful experience and methods used to prevent drop-outs

  • to test and further develop best practice;

  • to develop training sessions that can be offered as common European work-shops/training courses or to be carried out on a national level;

  •  to develop a manual/hand-book in drop-out prevention for teachers, trainers, mentors and guidance counsellors and

  • to set up a European conference on the theme of drop-outs to disseminate the results.

The main target groups for the project are teachers, trainers, mentors and guidance counsellors working with young people in Upper Secondary Schools or in Vocational training. The beneficiaries will be the young people at risk of dropping out from the education and training system.

The main outcomes from the project will be a manual/hand-book for teachers, trainers, mentors and guidance counsellors on the topic of drop-out prevention and training sessions built on the manual/hand-book. There will also be a European dissemination conference at the end of the project.

The envisaged impact of the project will be an increased number of young people carrying out their education and training plans and a decreased number of drop-outs from schools and vocational training institutions.
