LEGIO
An ESF project called LEGIO: which stands for learning regions - in which there
was an action plan to prevent dropouts for young people in VET/apprenticeship.
Plus a lot of other projects in the field of apprenticeship run by the Service
for Vocational Training (DBO) also have the aim to prevent or overcome drop-out.

3 partners sharing different approaches to the prevention of drop out according to what could be best adapted to their countries.
Belgium based their approach on the YouthStart initiative developing alternative part-time education for school leavers. The Dutch partners based their approach on an American model for supporting job seekers and school leavers. The Finnish partners developed vocational guidance and non formal learning schemes under the ESF programmes.
The 3 main goals of the collaborating partners are:
1. Developing new coaching and educational working models in order to provide
vocational qualifications for those who are outside the labour market and
educational provisions.
2. Building up a multidisciplinary and regional network to support the
participation of young people and to enforce the actions within the network
through the individual guidance and consultation b the coordinators
3. To reduce drop outs and to speed up the processes to seek education and to
improve practices in recognition of prior learning.
